Umesh,
Deleting record will not free any table space.
So you will have to clean up this by hand.
I don't know how onspaces works on windows but
The offset is a offset into the "partion" on you disk
Or into a file.
A 0 (null) will be a save value for you.
Here is a piece of text form Art S. Kagel how to
Cleanup / Compact a table for option 2 and 3 you will need free
Table space so this will only work after you have added the chuck.
For option 1 you will only need ordinary disk/file space for the unload file.
And Oja .. FIRST MAKE A BACKUP ...
==========
1- Unload the data using UNLOAD (or my ul.ec utility), drop the table
and recreate it with an appropriate EXTENT SIZE and NEXT SIZE
parameters, and reload the data with LOAD (or ul.ec).
2- ALTER TABLE tabname NEXT SIZE (value large enough to hold all data
but no more); Then select an appropriate index and: ALTER INDEX
indexname TO CLUSTER; (If an index is already clustered ALTER INDEX
indexname TO NOT CLUSTER; first.)
3- ALTER TABLE tabname NEXT SIZE (value large enough to hold all data
but no more); ALTER FRAGMENT ON TABLE tablename INIT IN somedbspace;
You can do this to the same dbspace(s) that the table resides in currently.
Option 3 tends to be fastest. BTW my dbschema replacement utility,
myschema, available in the package utils2_ak from the IIUG software
repository can automatically generate the alters table and alter
fragment statements.

Hi
I am using ids 9.4 on windows XP.
I have very little DBA knowledge. I run out of
spaces loading a table with a large unload file. I then
deleted all the rows from the table that had been successfully loaded before running out of space. I STILL get the same error message even though l have deleted all these rows. The ISAM error tells me l need to add a chunk. I know l can use onspaces but am confused with what l should pass it, for example -o offset ? l have looked at examples but don't quite understand. I am using rootdbs for my initial space. Please could someone give me the exact command line l should use to add a chunk to this dbspace. Thanks in advance -
Umesh
