I had a similar problem in 2.10.03L (Don't know what version you have). I was told by Informix person that works within AT&T that there are 2 things that can make this string space disappear. They are: 1) Having a case statement without an "otherwise". The reason was that some memory is released when a "case" condition is met. There does not have to be anything executed in the "otherwise". It just needs to exist. 2) Use "call function(argument) returning variable" instead of "let variable = function(argument)". For some unknown reason, Informix likes example one better. I had a report that would periodically crap out with message you got, and changing using the above rules made it more cooperative. I know it seems like black magic, but it worked for me! Hope that helps, EBD -- Elliot Dierksen "Is that a real poncho... I mean is that a Mexican poncho or is that a Sears poncho?
