d4gl reports on NT - I need help badly.

Hi. Is there anybody on this list using dynamic 4gl on the Windows Platform? I'm in a bit of a jam here and I need help badly. Reports generated on our dynamic 4gl system (d4gl version 3.0, IDS V.7.31 for Windows NT) are output-ted to a file by using START REPORT TO "FILE.TXT" Whenever I try to print this file by "COPY FILE.TXT LPT1:" or "PRINT FILE.TXT"... the report is badly formatted, as if formatted as a double spaced file. I opened this file using a vi editor (for DOS) and I noticed that at the end of a line is the ^M character. Using another editor, (Ultraedit), it says the file is in UNIX format. Trying the conversion utility in that editor, I converted the file from UNIX to DOS. This time, the file printed as expected. How come Informix for NT formats the text file as a UNIX file. Is this one of the hidden "features" of Informix on NT? I don't understand why? It sure as hell brings havoc on our reports...(since we output our reports to a file and then send the text file to the printer). I'm in a bad jam right now. I need to set this up before the rush of producing year end reports (all this y2k stuff you know). Is there a variable to set or a hidden switch to say "print this in DOS format" or better "Hey you're on an NT so do things the DOS way..." Right now, my "solution" is to run all text files through a file converter before sending to the printer... but that is reallly crappy!! But it seems to be my only way out of this jam. Does anybody know of any reliable text file converter (UNIX to DOS). Heck, I'll probably hack one out in C if that's what it'll take... but if you've got one, it'll surely make my days shorter and the nights longer. Thanks for any help... I badly need one. You may still want to write one in C (it's a 15-minute job), but in the meantime, just open the file using DOS "edit", and save the file. It will now be in DOS format. Joben wrote: > Hi. Its an extra ^M (CR) character. Whereas in DOS the pair of CR LF is the norm for indicating a new line, the text file produced by D4GL on NT has CR CR LF . (HEX 0D 0D 0A). Can this extra character be suppressed when producing the report to a file?
