Informix SE on Linux
Posted in 1999
Users running Informix SE on Red Hat Linux 6.0 got error -952 ("user password is not correct for the database server") when connecting via ODBC with a password, though a blank password worked. Art Kagel explained that Informix doesn't work properly when shadow passwords/PAM are enabled, so authentication must fall back to /etc/passwd. Eric Dennis supplied the command: run pwunconv (see its man page) to un-shadow the password file. The poster confirmed this fixed the problem, and another reader independently recommended the same workaround.

Hello! I have an Informix SE installed on Linux RedHat 6.0 and I have a problem: when I try to connect to this server with ODBC the server returned -952 error (User password is not correct for the database server) but if I let the password blank the connection is OK and the client is working. Why? Thank you!
I have exactly the same problem!! And I do not know what to do.... very shi***y rgds Serafin Vladimir Prodan <vladimir@unitedcapital.ro> schrieb in im Newsbeitrag: 83npc1$r0c$1@news.xmission.com... > > Hello! Why? Thank you! Informix will not work correctly with shadow password or PAM enabled. You have to switch back to using the /etc/passwd file. Art S. Kagel
Hi Art, thanx for your email... I've deinstalled PAM but how do I switch back to use /etc/passwd Sorry for this question - I'm a Linux newbie.. Serafin > Informix will not work correctly with shadow password or PAM enabled. You > have to switch back to using the /etc/passwd file. > > Art S. Kagel >
