down chunks
Posted in 1995
Dear Calvin, About your question below. I have had a similar thing happen when a chunk was marked as down due to the UNIX file table overflowing. I was able to change the chunk status using dd and writing over the reserved pages. Hope this helps. But - this should only be done if you know that there is no damage to the disk if the disk is actually damaged then you need to restore etc. Jason (RSWA). C>Just to confirm this, is restoring from archive the only way to bring the down C>chunk back up? How I wish the engine could just check the chunk when it starts C>up, then it will find the the chunk is in fact online again. And if it happens when we come back from lunch, I suggest we go out and have a heavy desert then. 8) (really big smile) I've learned, I recently have to skip dinner only to find out that there is nothing I can do accept to restore from archive. > >Do you have some details as to why its down?
