Hmm, Perhaps I am asking a silly question but. Was the Informix engine on a server accessed via the network and the ms-access engine on your local machine? or put another way what is the network connection like between the client and the server? Data transfer is not an issue, querys have been performed at the server.
This is a summary of the agregate query that was performed on both
databases.
SELECT fk1, fk2, COUNT(*), SUM(qty)
FROM bigtable
GROUP BY 1,2
Scans approx 839000 rows
Returns approx 300 rows
fk2 is an integer,
fk3 is an CHAR(5),
qty is a FLOAT
Informix Time: 2:30minutes
MS Access Time: 40 seconds
No indexes on MS Access.
Any ideas?
