I don't know about the theory, but I've tested the performance impact of having multiple Virtual segments as against a single large one of the same size - under 10.20, in my tests, the 'single large' was over twice as fast as the '5 small'. We are also finding KAIO slowing, yes slowing, us down significantly (takes 50 to 150% more time depending on the type of task). We're still investigating the cause.
