Frances,
Your problem probably stems from not setting up I-net with the Borland
setup. You need Inet working correctly with the BDE in order for the
whole thing to work. There are actually two set-up panels available
to get it straight, one in the SQL Explorer, another for just setting
up ODBC et al. Most of the time if you see messages referring to
Informix, you can almost bet you forgot about Inet.
Be sure to check that an Informix ODBC driver exists and can be seen
by the BDE or the Borland ODBC Setup. This is also required in order
to work with Informix.
Aliases you set up with ODBC can get corrupted. You should set up Inet
first, then create an alias with the BDE. For your situation, delete the
Borland alias(es), create the Inet connection, then go and create your BDE
aliases.
I work with this daily, and you are not alone in trying to get this right.
It's an interesting set-up, and even experienced users get this cobbed
up rather quickly.
