What ports?

I'm running Informix SE runtime 7.23.uc1 on on a SCO Unix 5 server. I'm trying to use the windows odbc manager to connect to the informix database but I need to know what port's are being used by Informix. If I remember right this is something that was configured manually durring the install by editing the services file in unix...Am I correct or does Informix set up it's own port?
you would have had to set up a port number in /etc/services for your informix listener thread. the name in your service column in $INFORMIXSQLHOSTS will index into the flat file, and give you the number, if your sysadmin had done it you can ask for it, or if you had done it as superuser then view the file or grep for it ( grep sqlexec /etc/services ) or grep turbo /etc/services) ( i think) you can use that same number in service field in setnet 32, and check if it works using the ilogin test . i would suggest doing that before connecting using odbc... On UNIX the port's name and number are recorded in /etc/services, yes, but that will not help since you do not know the service name or the port number. On the server you have to look in $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts and seek the line containing the server's name with a second column value that ends in 'tcp' (for TCP/IP protocol) or 'spx' (for netware protocol) and the fourth column will contain the service name to use to look up the port number in /etc/services unless you are using DNS for service name lookups.
