You can't stop them from being grabbed, they get created every time Informix needs to do a disk sort. They can sometimes get left behind when the sort crashes. Is PSORT_DBTEMP set, or was it set at the time the server was started? If you unset it (and reboot the instance), the problem *might* go away. Check the date on the files, if they're older than today, you can probably just club them. The file name also (IIRC) is partly made up of the process number that created the file. You might also be able to use that to identify files that can be deleted.
