I can't personally comment on Powerbuilder, except that I've heard second-hand that it's less flexible than some of its competition in building complex, high-end applications. What I would say about development in all of the burgeoning number of windows-based client-server products is that the parsing and network traffic overheads of an application which makes lots of calls to the database can be like a ball and chain on the system. On a project I worked on earlier this year we had appalling performance problems until we re-wrote the SQL-intensive routines as Stored Procedures - ie. all work done at the back-end, so no overheads. Soooo.... to even *consider* a front-end tool for real-world applications, at least make sure it has the capability to execute stored procedures. Some products don't. Better still, why not check out Informix-NewEra. akent@cix.compulink.co.uk (Andy Kent) -------------------------------------
