RE: Informix DS on a SUN/SOLARIS

We have many installations in our country from sparcs to ES/4000 , which is a big machine with a 64 bit Architecture, the performance is quite = good but thanks to the people who really wanted it to be that way ( eg. Mario Quiroz, Paul Jones Belize Telecomunnications Limited), this has many users but YOUR PROBLEM may not be solaris which is a good OS, your problem (if your machine is that big, i mean ES/4000 or above with solaris 2.5.1 in a 64 bit architecture) will be the &%$ INFORMIX = SUPPORT, WHY?, let me tell you this. 1. A simple cperf screen, entry "01/01/1997", when queried from a = different tool ( as dbaccess ) returned "23/08/1878", and WE SOLVED this = problem after INFORMIX miami said, have a good day at 7:00 PM. 2. SPERFORM where making core dumps, INFORMIX miami said, guys something is wrong whithin your operative system, WE SOLVED, we suggested to upgrade to another ISQL ( because sperform is part of = this development tool) . .=20 15. The only problem we have now is that whenever a simple ace report tries to convert a value like "300m" in a char variable to match a = field in the table ( integer field ) it crash the engine , instead of = aborting=20 the ace report with an error.,=20 Yesterday I had a heat conversation with these people at INFORMIX, they said IT IS BUG No. 65382 ( which I dont have the &%$ description ) and that there is no solution and that INFORMIX is not planning to implement = one. I said that it is not a bug since in another machine ( 32 bits ) = whith the same OS level I don't have the problem, So I suggested moved the DSA and ISQL to CLASS "E" machine, because inforimx has just moved the ES/4000 to that class and they told me that they are not going to do that because they are INFORMIX and they KNOW EVERYTHING and i was a simple DISTRIBUITOR of the product ( Actually I work for = SISTECO, which is a company having the exlusive distribuition of INFORMIX = products in 4 countries in Central America, so I am in charge of the support for = all this countries and I have been working with INFORMIX for about=20 8 years. So I asked to our sales man to place an order for a DEMO = product because We will install the latest version just to see if it works , = once it has moved to the correct CLASS PLATFORM. Sorry for the long message, but in conclusion Sun is a good machine and solaris is a stable OS, I can tell that for all the customers we have on = this platform.
