Server-side ad hoc querying and reporting tools

I am looking for an ad hoc querying and reporting tool for our users. Our JTA System is a legacy system (IBM AIX operating with character- based screens emulating VT100). I need server-side reporting and querying tools to allow users to query our INFORMIX database and request ad hoc reports. Processing must be done by the server. Our users access the system via TELNET! We are currently using SQLAssist with old versions of INFORMIX and IBM AIX OS. SQLAssist is no longer supported. Our OS and DBMS versions are also no longer supported by the vendors. We need new querying and reports tools to allow us to migrate to current versions of INFORMIX and IBM AIX OS. I am looking at iSQL and ACE Report Writer, but I can not determine if they can be integrated into our menuing system and whether they would present security risks. We wish to restrict users to their own database (we have 92 databases). If there are no longer tools to support TELNET access, are there server- side tools to support browser-based access without a client? Our users are throughout the State of California; therefore we do not want to require that they download a client. Have you looked at Crystal Reports? I don't use it often myself, but I seem to remember that the newest version has some type of browser interface, and you can set it up to generate reports server-side and have them ready for the users. I can't imagine that they have that capability without being able to do server-side adhoc reporting as well. You could then download an X version of some browser to view them. That would seem to be a decent intermediary step. I may be blowing smoke, but it's worth looking at. www.seagate.com And no, I don't work there. Actually, I'm a little pissed at them because they don't have a java client that lets programmers build custom reports on the fly using java objects instead of a JDBC datasource. Not that I think any of you are really interested in my problems... :) In article <95stde$jql$1@nnrp1.deja.com>, drichn@my-deja.com wrote: > I am looking for an ad hoc querying and reporting tool for our users. > Our JTA System is a legacy system (IBM AIX operating with character- > based screens emulating VT100).
