Re: Can't start IDS 9.3 on RedHat Advanced Server 3.0
Posted in 2004
A user couldn't start IDS 9.30 on Red Hat Enterprise/Advanced Server 3.0: "oninit" failed with a relocation error (libpthread.so.0: symbol _h_errno, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in libc.so.6), i.e. a glibc incompatibility. The answer given was that 9.30 simply isn't certified/supported on RHEL 3.0, and the fix is to move to IDS 9.40.UC3 or UC4. The rest of the thread drifts into availability: 9.40.UC4 wasn't yet on Passport Advantage (electronic GA stated as May 18th), and 9.30 downloads had been pulled after its end-of-marketing date.

Hi Ken
You should upgrade to 9.40.UC3 or 9.40.UC4 which is certified on RHEL
3.0
IDS 9.30 is not supported on RHEL 3.0

Can't start IDS 9.3 on RedHat

Please respond to
Ken Hu
Dear All:
I try to evaluate the new setting with IDS 9.3 installed on RedHat
Advanced Server version 3.0.
The installation procedure goes fine but when I use "oninit -ivy" to
start Informix , I get the following error message :
>>oninit: relocation error: /var/lib/libpthread.so.0: symbol _h_errno,
>>version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time
>>reference
It seems like the library version problem , does anyone know how to
resolve this ? Or I need to reinstall my OS with another version of
RedHat for compatibility ?
Thanks in advance
Ken

Is it generally available yet?
When I asked about 6 weeks ago I was told it would be available in mid- to
late May.
It is the first release in which onmode the -b regression to a previous
release works.
We're going live with 9.40FC3W2 on a customer's first oltp database on
Saturday (will have to miss the Rushden and Diamonds vs Vale game :-(() so
I'd be grateful if anyone has more current info.
When on the PA site did you happen to notice that all the 9.30 downloads
have been removed?
regards

Sorry, 9.40.UC4 is May 18th not May 15th.
9.30 has been removed from the PA site as the product has now passed
its end of marketing date.

We are currently still shipping IDS 9.3 as that is the latest release supported by SAGE. regards Malcolm
