Those results make no sense. All that I can tell U out of personal experience is that ORACLE needs about twice the hardware than INFORMIX needs. Show me anybody with sense that is using MS-SQL for big apps. SYBASE is old technology {MS-SQL use SYBASE code} Used to runs ok HP. Never worked with DB2 Big sites don't use PC's as there servers. PC MAG wont know. Ask some of us what is big. One company, 20+ Digital Alpha GS...x, 8400's {Avg. 6-8 CPU, 8+Gig Ram, 1TB+ mirrored}, Some 4100's and all duplicated at a disaster recovery site. I am sure this is small. Lets here from U what is the biggest INFORMIX DB that U Know about or work on. -----Original Message----- From: Norris [SMTP:jcheong@cooper.com.hk] Sent: Friday, April 14, 2000 9:21 AM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Re: Top Databases Used Here is the summary for TPCC Top 20 Database Cluster Non-cluster -------- ------- ----------- Oracle 6 6 Sybase 0 4 MS-SQL 2 1 DB2 for AS/400 0 1 =========================================== Total 8 12 In comp.databases.sybase Frank1 <karthiksNOkaSPAM@citiesnetwork.com.invalid> wrote: > Hi, > Try tpc.org for hard numbers on different database performance. > and if u want to know what DBs some of the big sites use go to > PC Magazine's web site and look for a Oct 19th 1999 article > titled "What makes the Big sites run" > Frank > * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet's Discussion Network * > The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet - Free! -- http://www.cooper.com.hk
Right now, my largest database is about 1.8 TB...it's 8.21 on 4 co-servers(~6000 dbspaces) it's backed up weekly, and I restore it twice a year for DR(I gotta keep my fingers crossed).. .
