Online Performance Probs 5.02.UC7

We're having major performace problem on our Databse which is manifesting itself as huge IO amounts, sar -d giving 100% busy & Avque 15+. We did recently create a number of duplicate tables and then renamed them to their LIVE versions to allow us to run a procees with minimum downtime(Last shortcut we take). We're since ran update stats on the individual tables and it that ran through fine. Problem is still looking the same though, anyone out there seen anything like this. It could be something else but the problem did start right after this work was done so I'm pretty sure that this is the issue.
