can't access informix server on linux

Hi,
I just installed the informix server 7.3 for linux.
I can run dbaccess local and create database, run sql's and so on, but
I can't access the server from the network.
Do I have to do some special configuration ?
Or use a special protocol ?
If you got any ideas please help me.
Thanks,
Theo

Is this SE or IDS? If SE you need to run the listener process
$INFORMIXDIR/lib/sqlexecd.
See the FAQ and installation instructions. Either way you have to have an
sqlhosts line
that specifies onsoctcp as the connection protocol.

Make sure you are on AT LEAST the 2.2.10 kernel. This will fix a
multitude of problems for you. Also make sure you have a version
of Linux that has libcrypt.so.1 on it or you most likely will not
be able to use 4GL or ESQLC.
Distributions that will give you trouble:
Caldera 2.2.5 - latest has no libcrypt.so
Red Hat 6.x - I guess this will do if you can get it to install
Slackware 4.0 - no libcrypt.so
Distribution that will work nicely:
SuSE 6.1
1. Download the 2.2.10 or greater kernel,
2. Delete the /usr/src/linux-SuSE directory
3. Delete the linux link to the /usr/src/linux.SuSE directory in step 2.
4. Untar the 2.2.10 kernel into /usr/src so that you
now have a /usr/src/linux directory like you're
supposed to have, instead of the mess SuSE creates.
5. make xconfig
6. Configure your kernel with the GUI interface
7. compile your kernel
8. install Informix in something like /opt/informix
in this order:
ISQL -
4GL -
ESQLC - from the IDS RPM distribution mess
IDS - from the IDS RPM distribution mess
The distributions of each of these products have an inconsistent
approach towards installation which really costs a person a lot
of time, but I solved this by un-f***ing each distribution by
extracting each distribution to a separate directory. Then tar
up each tree into separate tar files the way they are supposed to be.
Then you can untar them each in the same tree, and install each one the
right way.

And IDS runs on it with no patching whatsoever. If you'd articulate your outstanding problems with it to us, perhaps we could help. >The distributions of each of these products have an inconsistent >approach towards installation which really costs a person a lot >of time, but I solved this by un-f***ing each distribution by >extracting each distribution to a separate directory. I do hope all of you that feel this way are providing this feedback (e.g. "I want plain tarball/cpio distributions of the Linux products") back to Informix thru the web site or the linux@informix.com alias... -- Alan Denney yosemite at accesscom.com "President Clinton of the USA" anagrams to "To copulate he finds interns".
my sqlhosts contain:
demo_on onsoctcp home turbo
where turbo 1526/tcp in /etc/services
when I start the IDS server via onmonitor-startup
i got the following messages in the online.log file
03:06:48 Event alarms enabled. ALARMPROG =
'/opt/informix/etc/log_full.sh'

The last message keep appearing.
in the onconfig file I set the
nettype=soctcp,,,
I tried the above configuration with turbo 1527/tcp with the same result
if I set nettype :
nettype=ipcshm,,, and in sqlhosts i put
demo_on onipcshm home 1527/tcp( or 1526/tcp)
the server start's ok.
the problem is that I can't configure the setnet32 from nt to use the
onipcshm
if you got any ideas, please help.
thanks,
theo
