Engine's re-setting

Hi everyone! I wish to listen some advice about the engine re-setting (whether it is aplicable), because at this time we should add a processor and more memory to the server. Current Setting: Server : Sun Enterprise 450 - UltraSparc 300 Mhz Processor - 512 Mb of Memory OS: Solaris 5.7 Informix Version: Informix Dynamic Server Version 7.31.UC2A Upgrade: 1 Processor additional and 512 Mb additional Memory. Subject point to know whether we should adapt the engine's parameters , p.e. OnConfig, to teke adventage of the server's new capabilitys Thanks in advance

Hi, dsolalinde, You must to change the relative to the point in server you updated. The BUFFERS parameter can be bigger than before. I dont know how much BUFFERS you have but you can increment more memory to this parameter. Did it based in the LRU size, and its near to BUFFERS / LRUS. Try to make the LRU size the same as before. You still can make bigger the Virtual Portion Memory (SHMVIRTSIZE parameter). About processores, you must to see the number of physical processor and change some parameters: MULTIPROCESSOR <set it to 1>NUMCPUVPS <set it to number of physical processor - 1> ( -1 because Informix recomend that you set it to value that leave one processor for OS ) SINGLE_CPU_VP <set it to 0 (zero)>Maybe I could help you better that it, if I saw the onconfig file.
