I know Orcale can, but >Informix ? Thanks. You can certainly write something to create userid's and passwords apart from the OS. Informix will still use the OS information with whatever additional parameters you establish. For that to work though you'll have to call a routine that accesses your new security tables from all of your other programs. Also, not to nitpick over semantics, but Oracle is the one with the limitation here. It's not that Oracle CAN do this, but that is THE way that Oracle handles user security. With Informix you have the luxury of OS authentication (so that you don't have to duplicate your efforts) and the possibility to 'roll your own' security within the database on top of that. == Maintainer of the procrastinator's FAQ. Well, maybe tomorrow I will be. _____________________________________________________________ Want a new web-based email account ? ---> http://www.firstlinux.net
