I've always dd'd /dev/zero into it when using cooked files. At least you know that
there's enough space on your disk.
And, even for raw disk I always figured that it's better to start with a clean slate.
So, this 2Gb limit didn't turn out to be _such_ a bad thing, after all ;-)
