The esql help message says there's a '-ansi' flag, but that doesn't seem to work. The cc man pages say theres a '-Aa' or '-Ae' flag for ansi, which does work on the esql command. The esql -ansi flag enables ANSI SQL compliance testing during the ESQL parsing phase. It generates warnings for any non-ANSI SQL features used such as MATCHES. It has nothing to do with ANSI C as you discovered. Art S. Kagel
