Running 4GL progs with stderr redirection
Posted in 1993
Hello! Why is it impossible to start a 4GL program (or a program that calls 4GL functions) with redirection of stderr? I have several such programs (each of them do screen I/O with 4GL forms) that run without a glitch when I start them without such redirection. If I do "progname 2>errfile", then the program will start, but screen output is garbled, and no keyboard input whatsoever is accepted. I have to kill the program with "kill -9" from another screen, no other way is possible. Here follows output of "stty -a": Without redirection: GAN03X# stty -a < /dev/ttyp004 Geschwindigkeit 38400 baud; Leitungsmodus = 2; intr = DEL; quit = ^|; erase = ^h ; kill = ^x; eof = ^a; eol <undef>; swtch <undef> -parenb -parodd cs8 -cstopb hupcl cread -clocal -loblk -ignbrk brkint ignpar -parmrk -inpck -istrip -inlcr -igncr -icrnl -iuclc ixon -ixany -ixoff isig -icanon -xcase -echo echoe echok -echonl -noflsh opost -olcuc -onlcr -ocrnl -onocr -onlret -ofill -ofdel tab3 With redirection: GAN03X# stty -a < /dev/ttyp004 Geschwindigkeit 0 baud; Leitungsmodus = 2; intr = ^`; quit = ^`; erase = ^`; kil l = ^`; eof = ^a; eol = ^`; swtch = ^` -parenb -parodd cs5 -cstopb -hupcl -cread -clocal -loblk -ignbrk -brkint -ignpar -parmrk -inpck -istrip -inlcr -igncr -icrnl -iuclc -ixon -ixany -ixoff -isig -icanon -xcase -echo -echoe -echok -echonl -noflsh -opost -olcuc -onlcr -ocrnl -onocr -onlret -ofill -ofdel As you can see, the terminal settings are totally out of range. What happens here?
