recover SQLHOSTS file
Posted in 2013
A user's SQLHOSTS file became zero-sized, losing all 21 instance entries on Informix 9.40.FC9. Initial suggestion was to manually recreate the file or check client machines for backups. A proposed solution was querying sysmaster:syssqlhosts table, but this was corrected—that table only reads from the current SQLHOSTS file, so it cannot recover lost entries. No complete resolution is recorded in the thread.

Hi, We have Informix Dynamic Server Version 9.40.FC9 running on HP-UX B.11.23. We have 21 instances running on the server. All of a sudden the SQLHOSTS file has turned to zero size (not sure how), all the entries are lost. we are not able to access any of the databases. Is there any way by which these entries can be recovered apart from the usual file level restore. Thanks in advance. Regards, Sushant
Determine the servernames and port numbers for each server and rewrite the sqlhosts file manually or shutdown (ie kill) all of the servers and create a new sqlhosts file with possibly new ports and restart everything using that. See if any client machines have an sqlhosts file you can steal! Art Art S. Thanks Art for the response. Is there any way by which sqlhosts file can also be backed up with the dbspaces? Also are there any tables in sysmaster database to recover the values in sqlhosts file?
Ooo, yes! I always forget about that. Look at:
Select * from sysmaster:syssqlhosts;
It definitely exists in v12.10, don't remember when it first showed up.

the sysmaster:syssqlhosts reads and present the data from the
current sqlhost file. So if the current sqlhost file is of zero size this
table will not show any rows.

Do the onconfig files also have that info?
