HPUX Startup Scripts for Informix 7.12 not working correctly

I've encountered a strange problem on our HP K400 running HPUX 10.01. We are running both Informix 5.0 and 7.12 on this box, and I have set up the Startup and Shutdown scripts in /sbin/init.d for each of our 3 Informix 5.0 instances and our single 7.12 instance. The scripts for all 5.0 instances work fine, but after running the script for the 7.1 instance, I go into ONMONITOR as user Informix, and the mode of the instance is still offline. If I then sign on as root and run ONMONITOR, the mode of the instance is online. To any user other than root, the instance looks like it is offline. If I try to startup the instance as user Informix, Informix says that shared memory is already initialized. I have to sign on as root, take the instance offline, then go back in as Informix to startup the instance before any users can access it. Has anyone else experienced this problem and found a way around it?
