DHL Woldwide Express, the largest international air express network, is seeking the following: *****Technical Lead for Database Administrators****** Job Description: Oversee all DBA work for IS development on a day to day basis. Schedule and assign work to DBA staff. Understand the business objectives of new projects assigned by management and advise of unexpected technical issues or side effects which may result from the development work. Field calls for help from production support staff and defect notifications. Select and assign an appropriate DBA resource to resolve the item in the appropriate time frame. Lead/review database designs; estimate sizes of new databases. Assist in capacity planning in estimating growth of existing databases. Manage relations with primary database vendor on all development related issues. Requirements: 1. Minimum 3, typically 5 years experience as DBA for either Informix, Oracle, Sybase, or Ingres relational database systems in a multi-user environment. 2. Full knowledge of SQL, including programming and how to optimize SQL code. 3. Solid programming knowledge of at lease two of the following: C, Perl, UNIX shell, MS Access. 4. Solid theoretical knowledge of relational database techniques to include performance tuning, indexing, security considerations, backup and restore, purge, collisions and deadlocks, and data integrity. 5. Minimum 1, typically 3 years experience with Unix development environments. 6. Ability to summarize detailed technical issues for management. 7. Ability to weigh various suggested technical solutions against the original business needs and choose the most cost effective solution. 8. Excellent teamwork skills. Ability to work with long established senior staff, provide guidance and assign and follow up on tasks. Education: BS Computer Science, Information Systems, Math, Business related discipline or equivalent required. Graduate degree highly desirable.
