HDR- good pratices with secondary server

I am ready to set up HDR between our production instance and disaster recovery
(DR). The secondary will be read-only. I have successfully tested switching
the Primary between standard and primary modes (and shutdown). I have faced
problems with switching the secondary to standard and then back to secondary.
I see messages like:
10:55:23 DR: new type = standard
10:55:23 SCHAPI: Started dbScheduler thread.
10:55:24 Booting Language <spl> from module <>
10:55:24 Loading Module <SPLNULL>
10:55:24 SCHAPI: Started 2 dbWorker threads.
10:55:24 On-Line Mode
10:56:32 switching from standard to secondary mode requires all logical log
files older than current log file to be backed up.
Please backup log files.
11:00:49 Checkpoint Completed: duration was 0 seconds.
After I backup llogs..and do a 'onmode -d secondary' I get a:
12:22:17 Logical Log 5422 - Backup Started
12:22:17 Logical Log 5422 - Backup Completed
12:22:49 DR: Server not in quiescent mode
12:26:33 Checkpoint Completed: duration was 0 seconds.
'onmode -s' does a shutdown. I end up restarting with an ontape -p ......
So here are my questions on good practices:
1. What are the steps to switch the secondary to standard?
2. What are the steps to switch the standard back to secondary?
2. Is it good practise to shutdown the secondary without switching it to
standard first?
Systems: (IDS 11.70.FC3, HP-UX ia64). Thank you.
You cannot switch a standard server to secondary. You have to archive it
and restore to the original machine as a secondary, then switch roles.
