CDC Informix

Hi, We are running informix 11.70.FC7. Does anyone use CDC with Informix. Can you setup CDC on an RSS server? Any feedback on performance overhead with having CDC turned on? Thank You, --Dave --047d7ba97780dee7a60513ec716f
Dave I have CDC running against a ER target to capture changes and pass on to $QL$erver. I cannot really comment on performance as there is nothing else accessing this database, it is only there so that CDC is running across a LAN rather than WAN (ER handles WANs sooo much better !!). Beware licensing on CDC, it is very expensive and is rather delicate when encountering network issues, it needs a degree of nursing and monitoring. Keith, thank you for the information. Anyone else have any experience/feedback using CDC and Informix? --Dave On Fri, Apr 17, 2015 at 12:12 PM, Keith Simmons <smiley73@gmail.com> wrote: > Dave > > I have CDC running against a ER target to capture changes and pass on to > $QL$erver. Only played with it, never used it in anger or production. I thought CDC incurred no extra licensing cost, if you were just using the API. It's simple enough to write an application that uses the API but there are some more complex problems to deal with like tracking changes in transactions in case a rollback is issued. It depends what you want to do with it. If your requirements are simple and you don't need a general purpose solution, you might get good results with the API without a large amount of effort. If you are looking at middleware, in addition to InfoSphere CDC there is also DBMoto, which may be cheaper. I don't have any experience worth talking about with either though. Ben.
Ben is correct, the CDC feature of the Informix engine is included in your license, so no additional cost. The IBM Infoshere CDC "product" is another story altogether and is indeed rather expensive. I also would recommend DbMoto if you are looking for a working, less expensive, ready-to-go CDC based replication solution. DbMoto can replicate data between heterogeneous databases systems continuously. I have not worked with the CDC libraries to capture delta data from a server on my own, however, so I cannot speak to how well that works. Art Art S.
