Morning all, ok, now sounding like a true newbie, I've been following this group and applying some of the performance tuning recommendations I've seen, recent changes show the performance differential to be comparable to when we originally moved from Online 5 to 7, from a quad pentium-90 to an IBM fridge sized server. Now my question, performance monitoring software, does anyone have any experiance with the BMC patrol tool? does it have any value? brett
Hi Bob... I have been using BMC Patrol to manage my databases for 18 months now. You will get value right out of the box. For an Informix database, it will monitor approx. 50 different values. Now the threshholds that it defaults to will not be correct for your environment but they are very easy to adjust to whatever you want. You will also be able to write your own parameters using the PSL scripting language that comes with it. I do all kinds of things that I once did with shell scripts. It is a very powerful tool. BMC will supply you with a full copy that will run for 30 days.
