Email/Usenet Newsgroups and Copyright Laws

I know that this topic has been hacked away before but I just found an article in InformationWeek about Copyright Laws. This article appears in the March 25, 1996 issue. In the article it states that "An article posted on a Usenet newsgroup and an E-mail message transmitted over the Internet are both automatically copyrighted by their authors." This article can be located at: http://techweb.cmp.com/iw It talks about Copyright laws and the Internet.
