Application and database versions

Does anyone know if you can run an application compiled under Informix 7.24 and connect to a remote database server running 7.3? Or does the application have to be compiled under the same version as the database? Thanks in advance... Val Valerie H. Webber Valerie.H.Webber@m1.irs.gov 704-569-1002 x107 <<...>>

It can connect using a network connection while running in a 7.24 runtime environment. In effect you have to install iConnect 7.24 in a separate directory and place an sqlhosts file there that list the server's network or stream pipe connections (you can also fake the shared memory connection name by using the service and connection type of one of the network connections for apps that hardwire the servername). Oops, I did not mention:
Set INFORMIXDIR to the 7.24 connect installation, INFORMIXSERVER to one of
the names in the 7.24 sqlhosts file, and finally set
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$INFORMIXDIR/lib:$INFORMIXDIR/lib/esql.
The real problem is that the 7.24 executable is not compatible with the
SDK2.xx shared libraries. If the 7.24 executable were linked static it
be fine.
