RE: Sluggish Connections to IIF.2000 on NT Server
Posted in 2000
1. Is your network sometimes busy ond sometimes not?
2. Is there anything else on your database server?
3. Where is your BDC or PDC? (local or remote)
4. How busy does your BDC or PDC get? (Anything else on it)?
5. How many users exist in the NT user table?
6. How long does "dbaccess databasename" take from the command prompt on the
database server?
The client needs to locate the database server on the network. The database
server must obtain authentication from the BDC or PDC (after having located
it) from the user. Authentication is completely different on NT to Unix and
is more time consuming for Informix.
Under these situations there are a number of network requests taking place
in sequential manner. If the response of any of these is slow, your
connection time will be very slow - as you observe.

Subject: Sluggish Connections to IIF.2000 on NT Server
I reposting this message.
When connecting to iif.2000 via a client or dbaccess via tcp, I am noticing
connect latency
of up to 15 seconds (sometimes the connection is under 1 second). I get the
results no matter
how busy the network is. In my case, 5 users tops.
I noticed in the manuals that if you have DHCP enabled, you need to have
WINS enabled. As you can see from
from settings below, I don't have WINS Proxy enabled by I do have a Primary
WINS server installed.
I placed a call with Informix, but they don't have answer yet. They are
sayings its an O/S issue.
OK, if it is an O/S issue, what happens when a user tries to authenticate
against a NT server? What look-ups
are performed?
TIA
Steve Romankiw
