Backup L/Logs to File
Posted in 1994
Hi, Recently some of our applications were moved to HP-UX/9.0 running INFORMIX ON-LINE 5.02 which has got only one tape drive. System has now INFORMIX & NON-INFORMIX Applications running round the clock. The Problem I am facing is most of the time the drive is used by our users for NON-INFORMIX Applications, because of this, I am unable do contineous backup of Logical Logs of INFORMIX applications. My Question, Is there way of backing Logical Logs onto Disk ? One thing I thought was, Under Tape Parameters for Logical Logs give a Disk Filename instead of /dev/rmt/0m and initiate a Cron Job which in turn will move the file and serialize. i.e Logical Log Backup File : /apps/logs/logbackup ( Under Tape Parameters ) Cron Functions : Move /apps/logs/logbackup to another directory and append an unique number to 'logbackup'. By using above method will there be any problems in restore during SOS ? How can I append Logical Log Unique ID to 'logbackup' instead of some unique number ? If anyone had encountered this kind of situation, please enlight me whether my approach is in right direction or up the pole. Any advice in the matter will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance.
