Restore Backup from version 7.31 into 10
Posted in 2009
Topics: Backup & Restore, Installation, Setup & Upgrades
Hi list!. In the past we have informix version 7.31. Now we use Version
10. The problem is that I need to get info from a backup file created
from version 7.31. If I try to restore the backup with ontape -r I get:
# ontape -r
Please mount tape 1 on /opt/informix/IFMXBKP/backupfile.bak and press
Return to continue ...
Physical restore failed - function read archive backup failed code -1
errno 0
Program over.
I have the original CDs installers from informix, but in the past we
have it on ALPHA Servers (Compaq Digital Unix v4.0D). And that servers
know dont exists. Even the Alpha tecnology is discontinued. Is there
some way to restore the backup?
Thanks and Regards
Emiliano Romero

You MIGHT be able to extract the data using archecker, but I wouldn't put
much hope in that. You can't restore between versions and certainly not
between platforms.

Thranks Art. I actually install a UNIX TRU64 in an old Alpha server And
I'm going to get running informix 7.31 on that machine.

That'll work. Nothing wrong with a brute force approach!
