From the FAQ:
" 8.4 How can I run tbtape from a cron job?
------------------------------------------
echo '\\n0' | tbtape -s 1 | head -100
The head cuts things off when tbtape gets into the infinite
"insert a tape and press any key to continue" thing. I have
found that normal output is well less than 100 lines. This
trick also seems to kill off the loose tbtape process too -
but I'm not sure why. Of course, YMMV.

There are many other ways to do this, and many other things to try. I do
most of mine to disk, so I have the archive shell check to ensure there is
enough room. If your archive runs out of space it will echo a "please
change the tape" message to the stdout until THAT runs out of space, then
things will go to hell pretty quick. I published a copy of my script a
while back (in the Washington, DC newsletter) but got in trouble for it.
You may find the old copy but you can't have a new one.
It's do-able, good luck
