And as you point out doing an ontape backup to a file of over 2Gb with 7.31 requires some jigging around and can't really be advised. This isn't a problem when backing up a tape device - you can have over 2Gb here without swapping tapes. None of this helps the original poster very much though. Even if they upgraded to 9.40 or 10.00, which removes the 2Gb limit, I wouldn't recommend using any exporting tools as a means of backup: I believe they can only guarantee a fully consistent backup with a database on which no updates have been done during the export.
