Permenant Recovery
Posted in 1997
I am runing Informix Online 7.13 and today the system came to a stand still as the logical logs passed the declared High Water Mark and the logs completely filled. I made the mistake of shutting the system down, but what I believe I should have done was back up the logs to relieve some space. Anyway when I attempted to restart the server It was in a recovery state for at least 2hours. I interrupted the process and the system is now in a permenant state of recovery. I cannot perform and immediate shutdown, nor can I back up the logs as the message "server is in an incompatible state" is echoed back. If I try and issue a checkpoint nothing happens. I believe to prevent future occurences I should add some more logical logs. Logical logs are not currently backed up and are piped to /dev/null. If I use automatic backup to this device would this stop the situation happening in future? Can anyone offer advice to get me back up and running, (I shall be calling Informix Tech support tomorrow. I do not mind if the database loses the contents of the logs, as the work being carried out at the time can be automatically repeated, once the databases that were accessed at critical mass are dropped. Thanks in advance for your help.
