This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------4D316A2F1775 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit The job ads are inevitable, so I've created what I hope will make the rounds to the knuckleheads who insist on posting in this newgroup, and emailing me with their hype. I've never attached a file to post to a newsgroup, so I hope it makes it. If it doesn't then it'll be posted separately. Recruiters, We know the job requirements for most of the positions we apply for. We know how to use email. We know how to use the telphone. We know the difference between contracting and permanent positions. We know you probably don't have a clue how to market us. We know you don't know how to read a resume or write one. We know you probably don't understand the market you serve. We know you probably don't understand the positions you want to fill. We know you'll probably forget who we are the minute we start work. We know you lie, cheat, and steal to get recruits to take positions. We know!! So go away... If you can't then follow the attached instructions. :-) -- \\\\|// (6 6) -----------oOOo---( )---o00o------------------------------- Tim Schaefer Motorola: tschaefe@paging.mot.com Worldwide: tschaefe@shadow.net Homepage: http://www.shadow.net/~tschaefe Liberty: www.lp.org www.cato.org ----------------------------------------------------------- --------------4D316A2F1775 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; name="ultimate.txt" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline; filename="ultimate.txt" Recruiter, Since you insist on posting your job opportunity to this technical newgroup, you should optimize your posting to provide the subscribers with the essential information, yet avoid irritating them with all the propaganda about how wonder- ful your company is, and how great the job is, and how great life is in general. Subscribers to this newsgroup are intelligent enough to understand the following brief information. In fact, studies show that most of the people involved in technical jobs require very little information about job postings, in order to make a decision to pursue further contact. Technical people are for the most part a pragmatic bunch, needing essential information but not hype. You can save yourself an incredible amount of marketing-hype-production by simply adopting this format. You'll save us a lot of time reading your post, which shouldn't be posted to this newsgroup in the first place, and save yourself a lot of time by keeping it simple. When you post, use this BRIEF Subject Line: JOB OPPORTUNITY: JOB LOCATION, JOB OPPORTUNITY Keep the subject to 80 characters or less--the less the better. ################################################################################ 12345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890 | | | | | | | | In the body of the posting, use this format: JOB LOCATION: Use this line to give the City, Region, and Country where job is. JOB: Describe the job in one sentence EXPERTISE: Describe the expertise in one line COMPENSATION: Describe as contract, perm, rate, etc. in one line CONTACT: Describe who to contact in one line EMAIL: Describe the internet email address. Keep it no wider than 80 characters, and use carriage-returns to break up the lines, as some news reader software does not manage word-wrapped text. Some newsreaders will mangle even 80-character wide text into smaller widths. If you don't have an internet address, then you obviously don't understand the market your trying to serve, so be sure to avoid posting without an email address. Technical people will consider your post more credible with an email return address. You could probably provide several job postings with the above format in ONE posting, and use less text than a propaganda-based posting! Be sure to strip off your signature text you would normally append to the text message, to reduce even further the unnecessary text and information. Example: Subject: JOB OPPORTUNITY: Miami, FL, INFORMIX DBA Message: JOB LOCATION: Miami, FL, USA - South Miami area, 5 miles from Cutler Ridge JOB: INFORMIX DBA - 7.1 Data Base, HP/UX 9.x EXPERTISE: 3 years experience, firm, degree in C.S. COMPENSATION: Permanent position. CONTACT: John Doe, Doe Placement Agency, (305) 123-4567 x123 EMAIL: jdoe@company.com Thanks! Let's make the internet a safer, cleaner place for everyone! :-) --------------4D316A2F1775--
