Yes. DB Server: H70 on 10.01 App Server: G70 also on 10.01 Application: FourGen-based 4GL custom app. Note: If you are pumping lots o' data back and forth across the connection between the two boxes, then the performance will be degraded, compared to a shared memory connection on the DB server itself. Some solutions might be to better structure the code, try stored procedures (they really DO speed things up, if you can reduce the return traffic to the app server), add additional poll threads, or, depending on the load, even add an additional NIC, define a second connection in the sqlhosts file, and split your users across two connections. In our case, our worst performance was caused by code which returned a large, intermediate return set, then went out to select more data. To populate a header and 8-detail screen took (according to SET EXPLAIN ON)took 105 separate queries. Pumping this back and forthe across the connection just brought the system to it's knees. DB and code design, NOT the connection between the systems, was the culprit here. >>> Clay Irving <clay@panix.com> 09/18/96 06:43am >>> Has anyone been successful using two HP's (HP-UX 10.01) in an Informix client/server environment? One HP (in our case, K200 or K400) acts as the database server and the other HP acts as the application server. One would think this is the ideal set-up, but in reality, we've experienced horrific performance problems. Moving the application to the database server gives a tremendous performance advantage. I am interested in hearing other comments about HP and Informix. I'll summarize and post the results.
