Continuous Log Backup

Hello all I have a question about the common procedures used for level 0 and continuous log backup. System info: IDS 7.31 UC5 AIX 4.3.2.2 OLTP environment 1 Tape Drive for level 0 archives Separate tape drive for continuous log backup During normal operation I have the continuous backup of my logical logs running. At night (the closest thing we have to off time), I have my operator turn off continuous backup (if you can call it that, I have him press <control-c> to interrup it). After the continuous log backup session comes back to the prompt, I have him start the Level 0. As soon as he sees that the Level 0 is completed, he restarts the continuous backup. This seems to me to be safest/cleanest way of doing things. However, my question is, do I have to "turn off" the continuous log backup while my Level 0 is running? Thank you in advance Bryan Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
Hi ,
No you do not have to turn of continous logical logging. Although you do
have to make sure you have enough log space for transaction actions
occurring during the level 0 archive. The logical logs are not backed up to
tape while the Level 0 archive is in progress. They are kept on disk. You
can check the status are full but not backed up (onstat -l). Once the
archive is finished then the logical logs continue backing up.
I am presuming currently when the operator stops logical logging and
restarts it you put a new tape in when you restart the logical logging.
Only the wording below suggests you keep the same tape in the drive and
restart continous logical logging.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Excellent.

That's correct.

I apologize, that wasn't clear. The level 0 is actually a good time to
change tapes for the continuous backup, so I might not change the way
we do things...
