Downtime?
There is not downtime that I know of in what I suggested.
ontape -s -l 0 does online back ups.If you backup up your logs to disk then you can put them on
the tape after your backup. (tar command works fine for this part)
Logical logs backed up to disk are a static entity.
If you need more information please e-mail me and I will get it
for you. We currently do this in production, one tape,
no downtime required for the backup, we get the database and important
filesystems.
