Hi, Can one of you tell me what te difference is between the IDS 7.XXX releases is like UCxxx,UDxx and FDxx ? I've searched the IBM informix site but nothing in release notes /machine notes or anything goes into this. rgds, Peter
U = 32-bit Unix H = HP's special 32-bit that also runs on 64-bit F = 64-bit Unix T = Windoze The rest is just a release or version number. Always avoid xC1. :o) -- Bye now, Obnoxio "C'est pas parce qu'on n'a rien à dire qu'il faut fermer sa gueule" - Coluche >From: "Peter van Eck " <pveck@bru-hub.dhl.com> >To: ids@iiug.org >Subject: IDS versions [196] Date: Fri, 31 Jan 2003 03:34:29 -0500 (EST) > >Hi, > >Can one of you tell me what te difference is between the IDS 7.XXX >releases is like UCxxx,UDxx and FDxx ? >I've searched the IBM informix site but nothing in release notes >/machine notes or anything goes into this. > >rgds, > >Peter _________________________________________________________________ It's fast, it's easy and it's free. Hi, the mnemonics in the naming are in part historical, so please excuse if they seem a bit arbitrary ... Nevertheless, here's how it works : a) The first character [UFHT] somehow denotes platform family. For the following explanation 'X' stands for 'C', 'D' or 'E' and 'x' stands for a digit : - the 'U' in .UXx stands for UNIX platforms, 32-bit". - the 'F' in .FXx stands for UNIX platforms, 64-bit. - the 'H' in .HXx stands for a speciality. These are 32-bit releases built specifically to be run on a HP-UX 64-bit system (as 32-bit application). I think there also is a dependency on a specific processor(s) in the HP machine. - the 'T' in .TXx stands for Windows platforms. b) The second character [CDE] denotes (minor release) family. For the following explanation, 'X' stands for one of 'U', 'H', 'F', 'T' and 'x' stands for a digit (i.e. 1 - 9) : - .XCx denotes a normal general release where in general .XC1 is the first of them. - .XDx denotes also a normal general release where this stems from a .XCx release (in the (latin) alphabet 'D' is successor of 'C'). There may be some features added to the 'D' release versus the 'C' release. The numbering again starts with 1, i.e. .XD1. In general, once there is a .XD1 release there won't be anymore .XCx releases. - .XEx denotes also a normal general release as successor of a .XDx. Though these are very rare. - between a 'C' and 'D' release new features (albeit small ones) might be added. If only the last number increases, there are generally no features added between releases, only bugfixes. Example: 7.31.UD2 is newer than 7.31.UD1 is newer than 7.31.UC7 is newer than 7.31.UC6 .
