You have to define by what you mean by the "developer". If you define the term developer as the generic guy who writes the code, then the choice of database is irrelevant. The database is merely a persistence of the objects and any database that supports jdbc, hibernate, struts, etc ... will suffice. This is why I'm saying that you have to choose a niche where IDS shines and develop a story there. When you talk about seeding the market, its like growing a crystal.
