Re: Dimmy vs Dumby: who's right? Or, who is more right? :o)

This is not a technical support thread but a flame war in comp.databases.informix. Amid personal insults and a dispute over posters' anonymity and real names being published, the only substantive content is an argument about IBM's commitment to Informix IDS: Gumby contends IBM's sales/distribution teams lack local pre- and post-sales skills for IDS (forcing subcontracting to business partners like Xtivia), that pricing pushes retail/POS customers toward cheaper options such as PostgreSQL, and that promised TPC benchmarks for IDS never appeared. No technical problem is posed and no resolution is recorded; the thread degenerates into abuse.

I mean heck. He's a long timer at Informix, and now IBM. (Funny he didn't mention his start date at Informix yet. Nor does he mention if he's still at IBM. Definitely not customer interfacing material. Wouldn't survive as a consultant. His ego is too big. Definitely not a software engineer. Were he, he'd understand the concept of an "ego- less programmer". So I have to question his professional training. Yeah I left IBM. Yes, I could have flipped roles and stayed within the big blue family. But alas, I still have my soul and anal cavities pretty much intact. Poor splinter. He's the type of guy who has to deal with the sad commentary of "is it in yet?" on those days when he breaks down and pays for sex. I'm sorry, I could go on picking on this pathetic sock puppet, but what's the point? He's right, who am I? I always joke at the end of a post and say "but hey!, what do I know". The reason for that is to point out that I could be wrong, or I could be right. I'm just a regular guy. One should always thing for themselves and take anything they read with a grain of salt. I welcome anyone to check out what I say. I even asked splinter to look in to SIAC. Never heard back from him. I could ask him to look at Northern Trust, circa Q4 2000, Jan 2001. But that isn't an IDS thing. ;-) Talking about IDS, one has to ask what retailers are planning on doing with their next generation of POS systems. Large store chains like HomeDepot and Wal*Mart have enough knowledge and clout to take the price OTC gave for Express and discount it down to a very small amount. Far much less than what you or I would pay.... But its the other smaller retail chains that use IDS. Will they use it in their next POS system? Will Apropos Retail Systems use IDS or flip to something that costs less. I mean he's the first line of support and if he could use Postgress, that will add to his margins. And that is part of the point. Price. But lets get back to basics. Who is going to buy an IBM product that not even IBM themselves are capable of supporting. Spliter was never in the sales force. So how does he know what drives the customer to purchase a product? Tim, you're looking at pushing IDS to the developer. Define what you mean by "the developer"? Thats a very vague term and it covers a lot of people. Before a "developer" will look at a product, you need to develop a story. A solution. IBM hasn't done this with IDS. -G

Marketing, technical, Developer community?> Ah, thats actually a good question. >From a "community" you have the IIUG, so clearly that's not what I meant. >From a "technical support", you have your maintenance agreement as well as premiere services, so that's not what I meant either. What I did mean was from a sales, pre/post sales support from the IBM S&D team. IBM's greatest strength (and weakness) is the army of S&D folks who latch on to your account when you become an aligned and integrated account. But what happens when no one on the team assigned to your account is capable of supporting IDS? Sure you can call in the swat team, or maybe an IT specialist from another city to help you. But what happens when you want a live body from IBM on site to talk about IDS or to help your DBAs out of a little mess? Thats the rub. Clients and S&D realize that unless there's a local person, there is some risk as to the customer service that you can get from IBM. People choose IBM not because they're the cheapest in terms of $$$, but that they give you good service and for the most part, they'll make you whole when they can. (Or at least they used to.) Customers don't get a good warm fuzzy feeling when IBM has to bring in a BP to help support a product that IBM makes. How do you think customers feel when they learn that IBM is subcontracting work to Xtivia and that the customer is paying a certain margin of uplift to IBM? (Oh I do know the numbers *very* *very* *well*, also the arguments both *pro* and *con* since I used to sell this... ;-) So thats a major problem. You're not going to get a lot of net new customers where IBM can't sell the product themselves, or support them locally. IT Specialists have in the past, lived on customer sites. This was good since they found new opportunities for IBM to cross sell/ upsell, along with offering "free" support and mentorship. With license maintanence fees dropping, these guys no longer lived at one account, but had other accounts to support. (The exception to this is Wally Mart and used to be K-Sears because the did enough business to warrant this sort of relationship.) >From personal experience, I've seen client reps not even talk about a solution unless they knew their local team could support it... Does that make sense? I'm not talking about the customer who's in BFE and knows that his "local" team is a 4 hour drive from the big city. I'm talking about a customer in the "big city" and knows that the nearest support guy is in another "big city". Think Chicago and Detroit. Or Detroit and Cleveland. _________________________________________________________________ See how Windows Mobile brings your life together—at home, work, or on the go. http://clk.atdmt.com/MRT/go/msnnkwxp1020093182mrt/direct/01/
Hey TS, [ is this OK :-) ] Just one quick question: Are you as immature, hot headed, racist and impulsive jerk in real life as you are in c.d.i. >YOU WILL NOTICE THAT I HAVE NEVER COMPROMISED ANYONE ELSE SO PLEASE DO THAT >FOR ME. IS THAT ASKING TOO FUCKING MUCH? Yeah abusing everyone from IBM does vouch for your gentleman conduct. You didn't get it. most of the posters in cdi are not angry for you posting anonymously, they are angry with you for abusing the net privilege and your insulting tone. There are so many anonymous posters in c.d.i and no one is bothered about them. You and IMG are two exceptions because of your bullying tactics and your bloated ego.
Hi Ravi Krishna, or should I say, srkrishna@srkrishna@yahoo.com or ravi.krishna.srinivasan@gmail.com Hope you like being compromised as much as me. No it's not ok, and according to an email you sent me you told me you would not use my name, should I post that email for you, you fucking little untrusting cunt? Surely by now you should understand now why I post anon, and why little cockroaches like you cannot be trusted with anything. You have no integrity and cannot be trusted. While I attack companies, you attack me, and have shown repeatedly you little cunt why you cannot be trusted. Now you invite assholes like sphincter to not only attack me, but to threaten me and my family with veiled threats. I cannot figure out why you have to attack me and compromise me, but if this isn't a clear case of how important posting anon is, I don't know what is. Please, like I said before, fuck off and die you untrusting little cunt. You can continue to post as Sherlock all you like Ravi Krishna, but I know who you are and how you have no personal integrity, and cannot be trusted with anything. If you have issues with me you could have taken it offline, but you chose to take it into c.d.i and show what a little cockroach you really are. FUCK YOU. Thanks, and have a great day! How about we call you Fred, or Barney, or Homer? I'm sorry but InDeep doesn't quite work as a name, now does it? Or we could call you Mark or is it Marc? I guess you call Simone Cowell a bully too when he panned your singing performance and you didn't even get to make the reject clips. (But we won't go there.) I think that what you find wrong with what we're saying is that you can't or won't be brave enough to discuss the issue at hand. Bullying IBM in to doing what they claim to be doing is such a terrible thing? Or forcing IBMers to question just how much they are really doing to support IDS is a wrong thing? Hey, I'm not an IBMer nor an IIUG board member so I can freely call to question IBM's lack of apparent short comings. Do you deny that IBM said that they were going to do TPC-E benchmarks using IDS? Yet they fail to be released? (If done at all?) Yet there has been IBM releases of TPC-C on DB2 and even Sybase. (Yeah I know IBM hardware is the ones pushing the sybase), yet nothing on IDS? Now why is that? Why not do a TPC-C on IDS? Oh I know. TPC benchmarks don't sell software.... *yawn*. (But they are a talking point and are viewed by industry pundits.) But hey! What do I know? I'm just a bully. ;-) Its not like I don't walk the walk. ;-) -G

Seriously, I don't know how long being Gumby was a mystery. (You were on the IIUG BoD at the time.) I had to drop enough hints as to who I was and it still took you a couple of weeks to figure it out. (Seriously, I never hid my true identity.) Using an alias, allows some of us to say things that we wouldn't normally say in person or as ourselves. (I really am I nice guy in person...) I do agree that its not nice to use people's names in posts, though a reference to Timmy could be a reference to the South Park character Timmy. (And we both know you're not in a wheelchair and can only say "Timmy!". ;-) But I really wish you wouldn't let this stuff go to your head. You shouldn't go all gutter mouth but you should have some fun with it. I mean if we wanted to make fun of someone we can look at why they chose "Sherlock Holmes". Using Freudian psychology, one could say that it was either the apparent reference to Sherlock Holmes, the fictional detective, clearly indicating that the individual suffers from an inferiority complex, or it could be a deeper meaning reference to the late great porn start John Holmes. This would indicate that ol Sherlock suffers from similar issues that splinter suffers. (That they are a tad lacking in the size of their third leg.) But we won't go there. Lets face it. While they may not like what we say, we at least attempt to add value to the conversation. Clearly something that they are unable to do. One should feel sorry for them. But hey what do I know? I never took Psych 101, the dean used my credits in acct 201-202 instead so they could and me a diploma. :-( -G
InDeep says... what's your problem man. Screw loose somewhere. It is obvious that no one in IBM cares a flying fuck for yours or that other idiot IMG's opinion. So why do you have to prove practically daily that you crave for attention by your nonsense. Some problem at home? No one gives you any attention !!!! If that is the case then I can understand. And when some sensible posters try to reason with you, a volley of abuse starts. And all for what?? To revive a product which you claim is dead for all practical purpose and are happy that you are out of it for 8 yrs. PLEASE CONSULT A SHRINK NOW FOR BIPOLAR SYNDROME. I actually worry for the safety of those who live/work with you. Most of BPS folks eventually end up in jail as murderers or at least use it as a line of defense.

Ravi Krishna Srinivasan, I've gone way out of my way to simply stay on topic, and you have gone way out of your way to stay off topic. You want to focus on me, I want to focus on IBM and Informix. I've tried to stay anon, and you want to drag me personally through a bunch of your self-righteous sermons as if you me or know what you're talking about--which you have proven you don't. You hate me, and want to do me harm, I get that. But the real issue that I have with you is this: You violated a trust with me. Your immaturity and lack of discretion are the issue. If you don't get that then there's nothing else to tell you. What does that say about you? You're an ignorant fuck that really doesn't understand the consequences of betraying a trust. As to IBM, IBM has little respect for people who want to lick their boots--obviously all the sychopants are really moving things forward, right. I am done with you Ravi. You are a little cockroach cunt. You need to be proven right, and I look for somebody to prove me wrong.
