If you do an onstat -p you will get the profile for the instance. In this
profile you should get something like this:-
INFORMIX-OnLine Version 7.24.UC5 -- On-Line -- Up 16:01:19 -- 939624
Kbytes

if the ovlock column is reporting any numbers, it means that the number of
locks that the instance has, has been exceeded - run 'onstat -c | grep LOCKS
' which will tell you what the LOCKS value in the ONCONFIG files is
configured for. ( alternatively, if you don't trust the ONCONFIG file, run
'oncheck -pr | grep LOCKS' to print out what value the LOCKS variable has in
the reserved pages ).
The query/update that is causing the lock problem should also be put through
the optimiser using SET EXPLAIN, which should estimate how many locks it
requires.
Effectively, upping the number of LOCKS might solve the problem, but
unfortunately, you don't know by how much you need to increase it !!
Hope this helps !!
