Tim - We've been running on Sequent for over 7 years, most of which has been using SVM to manage physical disk configs. Informix has been running, with SVM underneath, successfully for years. We currently have a 150GB Batch host, and 90GB OLTP 24x7 host, both using SVM. SVM in my humble opion, is the only way to go....provides flexibility, reliability, with very little performance impact. If you plan to mirror, I suggest using SVM, not Informix. >>We especially want to use SVM to stribe a heavily utilised database space >>in Informix in blocks down to 4K !! - Any comments on that ? We have not used SVM in striping configurations, mostly because of recovery issues. I have considered for hot spots like logical log, but haven't tested yet. One word of caution, be very carefull in determining your stripe width, performance with striping and Informix, can go to h*ll in heartbeat. I seem to recall that a stripe width of 16K was good for Informix, but I'd talk with Sequent and/or Informix for there input before doing anything. Hope this helps.
