Informix on SCO with NIS

Hi,
we have an database system Informix Online Ver.7.20
on a SCO OpenServer Rel.5.
Some Informix Agent is started with /etc/rc2.d/S86sagent,
the database is started (oninit) in this script or in
/etc/rc.d/8/userdef.
All went fine until I activated NIS (with ypinit, see
/etc/rc2.d/S86nis).
With NIS oninit runs without error, but onstat gives "shared mem. not
initialized".
I can stop NIS, start Informix (oninit), start NIS, thats ok.
But where I have to start Informix? Both S86sagent and userdef are after
S85nis and so to late. I renamed S86sagent to S84sagent and start
Informix there, but this cannot be the solution.
Thanks in advance

PS: By the way, there are no users root and informix in the area,
which is imported by NIS!
hi,
for running informix-instance u must not start S86agent (i never used
S86agent).
to start the instance imho network must be up (S85tcp).
so generate a script S86online which starts up ur informix and then start
nis (move S86nis to S87nis)
i never proved that 'cause we have no nis running. only a idea....

In article <3A2D1F5E.768DB3F9@mayn.de>, chris <cwalz@mayn.de> writes >hi, >for running informix-instance u must not start S86agent (i never used >S86agent). >to start the instance imho network must be up (S85tcp). >so generate a script S86online which starts up ur informix and then start >nis (move S86nis to S87nis) >i never proved that 'cause we have no nis running. only a idea.... > >:-) chris > I use S99za_informix. Start Informix last after everything it might need is up and running. Remember only scripts starting with S get run at startup! userdef does not start with a 'S'. Also I link it to K99za_informix to shut it down as well. -- David Williams

You problem most likely resides with NIS setup. Who is the master? I
bet you it is not the system on which Informix is running. If it is so
make sure that required by informix entries in NIS files (specifically
passwd and services) are defined as local.
Description of the problem points to NIS.
What you mean by ...no user root... ?
