I never forget nuffin :-)
Maybe just add the words "Expect it to take anything from one hour to eighty
hours in the faq". Just to give a general idea..
For all I know, it could take five minutes to export a gigs of data.... I
didne ask for exact timings (but if your willing to get yourself a couple of
servers, a copy of my DB and a spare weekend, I'd appreciate it if you could
tell me how long it'd take to the nearest nanosecond :-) ).
Thanks for replying, and keeping us all amused whilst we wait (for our
dbimport to finish... )
:-)
Thanks,
Ryan

It's probably just a surfeit of caffeine talking, but the logistics of this are insane. You expect someone, out of the goodness of their heart, to get a couple of dozen machines together, set them up for some arbitrary load and then benchmark CPUs that will be entirely out of date in six months' time? And that's just PCs. I mean a 400MHz Pentium bears no relation to a 400MHz SPARC or a 400MHz PA-RISC. And then there's IDE vs SCSI vs USCSI vs WSCSI vs UWSCSI vs FC. Different disk speeds and controllers. User load at the time. Motherboard Bus speeds. Multi vs Uni CPU. OS. Etc.
