Query Text Column as Date

I'm using the Informix ODBC driver to run queries with MS Access on my UNIX IDS 7.23. The problem is the date column's in my Informix database are 'text' fields (for reasons I'd rather not reveal). I am trying to query these fields with simple queries like >Date()-4 or using the now function. I had this working a few weeks ago when I installed the latest SDK 2.5 ODBC driver. Now, suddenly I'm back to scratch and when I query these columns I get nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Jerry
