I need to move a chunk from one logical volume group to another. I am running IDS 7.3 on HPUX 11i. My chunks were created using links to logical volume groups. Is there a command I can use to move the chunk.

Shutdown the server, copy the original chunk to the new one, relink the link to the new chunk location, restart the engine. That's it. Art S. Kagel

It's not clear whether you're asking this from just an Informix perspective, or an HP-UX one also. Or in fact by "logical volume group" you mean "logical volume" or "volume group". Assuming the worst case, what I would do is thus: 1. Create the new LV in the new VG: (lvcreate -l 500 -n informix_chunk_name vgnew) 2. Stop IDS. # Copy the data from old to new chunk 3. dd if=/dev/vgold/rinformix_chunk_name of==/dev/vgnew/rinformix_chunk_name bs=512k # Swap the symbolic link to point to the new chunk 4. rm /opt/informix/dbspaces1/chunkname # Or whatever your symbolic link is called 5. ln -s /dev/vgnew/rinformix_chunk_name opt/informix/dbspaces1/chunkname 6. chown informix:informix opt/informix/dbspaces1/chunkname ; chmod 660 opt/informix/dbspaces1/chunkname 7. Re-start Informix Downtime should be the time it takes to dd the data in step 3 plus a few minutes. I'd expect to be able to do it in 10-15 mins on a reasonably sized system. HTH Neil
If not too many chunks and MIRROR is enabled...
enable mirroring for the dbspace.
bring down the chunk you want to move using onspaces.
relink the chunk you want to move to the new device.
bring online the chunk using onspaces.
then remove mirror using onspaces....
(hopefully you run on a 'recenter version of 7.3'... a bug may prevent
the above...
so test it first on a test box...)
This can be done without shutting the engine....
