Hello, I have played around with SDS some and it seems to work quite well. I have a question if the following will work though ... server1 - primary server2 - secondary . Both systems get shut down ...and host names are swapped...then brought back up ..desired effect... server2 - primary server1 - secondary Not sure if this will work, and not sure what might need to be switched in the config files when the systems are brought down. I know sqlhosts will need to be modified... They are wanting to set up a DR scenario...but the way the application is set up it has to connect to the host name ... plus there are other things non informix on this system. Any help might be appreciated. Peter
Yes, if host names are changed then surely sqlhosts need update.
OR you could simply execute 'onmode -d make primary <secondary-name>'
on secondary server to make it new primary.
Secondly, application can use automatic client redirection based on server
groups.
For e.g. sqlhosts can be setup as follows.
--- sqlhosts ---
g_ha group - - i=10 # server group
primary onsoctcp host1 port1 g=g_ha
secondary onsoctcp host2 port2 g=g_ha
When applications calls "connect to '@g_ha' " statement,
they will be automatically redirected to current primary server.

My issue is with a non informix app that runs on the box ... and the
clients have to connect to that host/ip ... so the idea is to bring up a
DR box as if it was the primary box ....

Hi,
Remember: If you have a DR, the Primary, secondary, DSS, SDS, CLR servers must
be in <informixdir>/etc/sqlhosts
If you use a client/server appl, you have to put it in SetNet too.
Did you issued the commands:
onmode -d primary <hostname that primary server resides> ?
onmode -d secondary <hostname that HDR server resides> ?
onmode -d add RSS <rss1,2,3...n hostname> ?
onmode -d RSS <hostname that is RSS> ?(rememeber that these commands must be issued in the primary server side, and
some commands must be issued in the secondary, RSS , SDS servers indicating
that "hostname primary")
OR:
onmode -d standard to cut off replication ?

Not neccessary. You use the replication group feature of the sqlhosts file
and the clients connect to the group name instead of to a specific server.
Then if the primary server fails the app connects to the backup instead.
